Whether cream or lotion, soap, shampoo, decorative cosmetics or lip care - hemp, hemp oil and hemp products are now found in numerous cosmetics. The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) in Germany prescribes strict guidelines for the content of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) for the use of hemp/cannabis, hemp oils and hemp products in cosmetic products. Our experts at WESSLING have the expertise, the technical laboratory equipment and the necessary certificates and authorisations to examine compliance with the specified quality standards.
WESSLING supports importers of cannabis by testing their raw material for identity, content and purity. WESSLING possesses the necessary GMP certificate for this at its Münster location, and has the authorisation required by the German Narcotics Law (BtMG) to test cannabis products.
Special challenges in quality determination
Many different cannabis varieties exist on the market. They have significant differences in the content of their active components, such as delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). The quality of the material is therefore assessed using the THC/CBD ratio. The quantitative determination of these substances is of great importance for quality control. WESSLING determines the exact concentration and constituents of the products by using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and appropriate reference substances for analysis.
